Peanut butter and jelly, wine and cheese, surf and sun. Some things are just better together!
Unfortunately, plastic and our oceans are two things that don’t mix well. Because plastics don’t biodegrade, the plastic that isn’t recycled ends up on landfills, or worse, in the ocean where it contaminates water supplies, marine life, and more. Up to 80% of the waste that accumulates on the ocean’s surface, the seabed, and shorelines is plastic. At that rate of accumulation, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by the year 2050.
The good news is that a dedicated group of people is committed to changing those statistics. This is why Nummy has decided to partner with 1% for the Planet. We’re donating 1% of our sales to help support environmental nonprofits so we can truly make the world Nummy for all.
Our selected recipient is Endangered Species International, a nonprofit that is on a mission to remove as much plastic from the ocean as possible while also educating countries where the most plastic is released in the ocean. In 2019, ESI removed 56,850 pounds of plastics from the ocean and offered educational support for 41 communities where plastics are heavily used.
ESI’s current project focuses on cleaning up marine areas in the Pacific Ocean, where floating plastics are threatening the marine ecosystem and wildlife. The plastic is collected by hand to ensure as little disturbance as possible to the surrounding ecosystem. They’re also working to educate local fishermen and seaside communities on the dangers of plastic pollution, and are helping them find new ways to reduce plastic use, reuse the plastic they have on hand, and recycle plastic when possible.
Nummy was founded on the belief that we can create a healthier world for our children. Here are simple ways you can reduce plastic waste starting today:
By working together to reduce the use of single-use plastics, we can make a difference for humans and animals everywhere.
